One of the oldest neighborhoods in the City of Decatur, the Oakhurst district was the City of Oakhurst before it was annexed by the City of Decatur in the 1920s. It features many examples of bungalow-style residential homes of Craftsman styling, has a small commercial center that features cozy restaurants, a few memorable watering holes and specialty shops. The old Scottish Rite Hospital, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is also located in the district.
Oakhurst Park is an eight-acre neighborhood recreational facility at the heart of the Oakhurst neighborhood. Located at 307 Feld Ave., the park has two multipurpose fields, a playground area, two buildings, including a picnic pavilion with restrooms, and a concession and scoring building. Hard court surfaces include two lighted tennis courts and a basketball court. The site includes two separate parking areas and concrete walkways connecting the site features. Oakhurst Park is home to Decatur Youth Sports baseball, soccer programs and the Decatur High Schools girls softball team.
